The Kite Flyers

On a clear Friday night young and old Afghans converge on an ancient cemetery hill, home to the tomb of the former King and many other famous departed Kabul residents, to fly their kites with family and friends. Kite flying on Friday evenings is a distinctly Afghan tradition that was banned under Taliban rule but has made a fierce comeback. The skies of Kabul are filled with multicolored kites twisting back and forth and are evidence of some positive change in this volatile country.
