Politics in America is often a battle not just with ideological opponents but with the apathy of the general public. The United States has an average voter turnout of 48%. A dismal rate considering America’s position as a leading democratic nation and a super power.
But for two weeks this summer, in both Tampa and Charlotte, Americans of all stripes - Republican, Democrat, Anarchist, the disenfranchised and the disgusted, congregated and united in making their voices heard. While political protesters, Republicans and Democrats may have little else in common, they all had a place, a voice and for a while epitomized the stereotypical (if not unfairly bestowed) American character: loud, animated and opinionated. They all relished the limelight and the spectacle of the political circus. This project is an amalgam of Americans along the political spectrum, caught in the midst of the cheers and protests, all in their contradicting yet unwavering ideal of "The American Way."
